Donald Glover has scored his highest charting debut yet.
Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, My Love!” is far from his most accessible album, but that hasn’t stopped it from giving the singer and rapper his highest debut on the Billboard 200 yet. Gambino’s funk opus debuts at number 5 on the charts with 101,000 equivalent units (72,000 traditional), according to Billboard.
Childish Gambino (real name Donald Glover) previously debuted at number 7 with 96,000 copies sold of his 2013 project Because The Internet. It should be noted that streaming numbers were not incorporated into album chart placements at the time.
Topping the charts this week is the Hamilton Mixtape, which makes its debut with 187,000 equivalent album units (169,000 traditional). Meanwhile, The Weeknd’s Starboy has slipped to number 2 with 151,000 equivalent units.
