Rihanna will be appearing as the musical guest this weekend on “Saturday Night Live,” but there is talk that the hip hop star may have another role in the making for the show.
Rihanna is no newcomer to ‘SNL’ she has appeared in the show twice before. And she has managed get a few laughs from the audience.
MTV news confirmed that after a call with reporters on Wednesday (May 2), “SNL” Lorne Michaels let the cat out of the bag as he mentioned that he’s working to get Rihanna into a sketch or two for this episode as well.
“Yes, are hoping so,” Michaels confirmed. “We’ll know [soon]. I wish I could report on everything that’s been written [and] if this were tomorrow, I could,” he explained.
“I know that there are a lot of things in the works, but I don’t frankly know how they turned out. And I think it’s our intention.”
This will only add more publicity to the star as her big-screen debut will be on May 18 for the promised blockbuster “Battleship.”
Joining Rihanna will be the episode’s host and NFL’s MVP quarterback Eli Manning, who will try to do his best to trade get some plays going for some touchdown laughs.
“He’s both charming and radiates a certain kind of intelligence,” Michaels said of the New York Giants star. “You sort of believe that he doesn’t take himself that seriously. There’s a sort of essential modesty with him, and that plays well with what we do.”
Manning was also on the call, and he claims that he went to his older brother Peyton Manning — who hosted back in 2007 — for advice. “From Peyton, really, the main thing he said was, ‘Just enjoy the week. It’s a lot of fun.’
“It is work and you’re doing something you’re not quite used to doing, but he said, ‘One thing you are used to doing is live [TV],” Manning recalled.
“So, he said, ‘Just enjoy being with the writers … follow their guidance. They’re the ones that are funny and know how to do this.’ I’m very excited for it.”
Remember to tune in on Saturday for ‘SNL’ as it promises to be a memorable if not historical episode.
